1 month experiment: No Shopping!

I gave myself a challenge for October 2019, which was to not shop for more clothes. There were temptations everywhere. I tend to look at dresses online or in the boutiques during lunchtime. Ads appeared even when you were to watch a video. It was a little tough to resist the temptation.

Some of the clothing in this season was pretty nice. I did some window shopping and tried on some clothes, but I did put all of them back to their shelves. Partly because I told myself not to shop this month, and another reason was that I don't love the pieces that I tried on. Even though I do like (not love) some of the clothing, but I managed to push away the urge to purchase them because I made a conscious effort to remember that I had plenty of clothes at home already.

Honestly, I am quite happy that I did not make any purchase. I looked at the pieces in my wardrobe, and the items of clothing were still in good condition. My closet now consisted of apparels that I love, and I will wear them regularly.

During this one month, I learnt to condition myself to try on the pieces that I wanted to buy and ask if I love the items of clothing. Only if I love the piece, and I am confident that I will wear it regularly, then I would make the purchase. Secondly, I asked myself if I need more clothing. Most of the time, the answer is no. Fortunately, no clothes make the cut for the 2 questions.

The following questions are an excellent technique to put in place when you are shopping;

  1. Do you love the item?

  2. Do you need the item?

If the answer is a no, you can put the item back on the shelve and sashay out of the shop. Your wallet will thank you. You will also thank yourself for saving that little bit.

All in all, I am very proud of myself for surviving this challenge.
